This was an overview of how the Women Who Code Greenville network approached hosting an open source repository as part of Hacktoberfest, our lessons learned, and what projects continued to be available after.

Event Description on Meetup

This past October, the Greenville Women Who Code network opened up our Github Repository to the world by participating in Hacktoberfest 2023 through multiple projects over the course of the month. We did this by creating Issues that ranged in complexity for beginners to more advanced developers to dive in and participate, while members of our team provided projects and pull request reviews. Join us during this session to learn about what we did, where we did well and what we plan to improve, and which projects have continued forward that you can still join today.

Why you should attend:

• If you are new to Git or working in repositories, this session will give you an idea of how new developers were able to join in with minimal coding knowledge to complete their first pull requests.
• If you are new to organizing open source projects, you can learn about the kinds of project and documentation that the team set up in the repository. We’ll also share what was successful (and less great!) so that you have solid tips for starting your own collaborative projects or leading community open source events.
